How To Maximize Your Nature Walks

It's that time of year when people are always out for walks at their local arboretums, in fact, we were just at ours! The weather in spring is warm, but not hot, perfect for walking, jogging, and/or hiking. When we were at our arboretum, it occurred to me, I could have been more prepared to take in the scenery, which brings us to our first point:

Bring a camera! Even if you are going solely for exercise, you never know when you will find that gorgeous butterfly or that extravagant flower.

Bring plenty of water and snacks. The more water and food you bring, the longer you will be able to stay. You will have more energy and ability to focus.

Have something to do when you are resting. When you walk for a while you can get pretty tired. Most parks have benches scattered along their trails, so when you see one, take advantage of it! Sit down and read a chapter of a book, or have one of your snacks. After all, there is nothing like reading a story in the middle of nature!

Take a bird watching or nature book. You will be able to learn about what you are walking through if you do so!

Make a nature journal. Using a regular notebook, write about your surroundings, press flowers, and sketch what you see. By doing this you will be able to preserve the memory of your walk, and the more you journal, the more you will learn about nature.

So, with all that said, you can go on a nature walk with everything you need to make memories, learn about nature, and do what you were meant to do with your weekend- Have fun!

See you on the trails!

DIY Pressed Flowers

Summer is almost upon us! The flowers are blooming, birds are chirping, and the sky is blue! It's all so wonderful. So back to the flower part, wouldn't it be nice to preserve their beauty to look at on even the coldest of days? There is such a method; it's called flower pressing. It only takes a few minutes to set up, and it's so simple the kids can do it too!

Materials:

  • Freshly cut flowers
  • A few heavy books
  • Wax paper
  • Knife (or just your hands)

Procedure:

1. With your knife, cut the stem off one of your flowers as close to the petals as possible. Repeat with all flowers.

2. Cut a sheet of wax paper and place it on a flat surface. Lay the flowers face down on one half of the wax paper, then place it in one of the books.

3. Fold the other half of the wax paper over the flowers, then close the book. Place the other books on top.

4. Store the stack of books is a warm, dry place for two weeks. When the two weeks is up, carefully open the book, take out the wax paper, then bend it to help remove the flowers.

5. When you have removed all of the flowers from the wax paper, let them dry for one more day without pressing.

And there you have it, pressed flowers! These are great just about anywhere you can think of! Have fun making these, and don't forget, they make great gifts too!

I love to create everything I can think up, I am constantly thinking of new things to make, create and do. I wanted to share my creations with the world, let them share the joy of keeping them, so I decided to start Fanciful Cuties on Etsy. I went through a long list of names, things I could make, and how I would make them. I pondered over these for a long (I mean LONG) time. I didn't have a clue where to sell the things I made, on Etsy, at a farmer's market, or maybe at local fairs. But in the end, I chose Etsy. You can now buy the ever-growing list of handmade Cuties I sell right on Etsy

Everything we make at Fanciful Cuties is handmade personally me (Emma). We make sure that our products are top quality, and will last for a lifetime. Our products are inspired by nature and beauty. We do our best to mimic the seemingly random patterns of nature, and merge them with everyday life, to create whimsical trinkets to brighten your day. We hope to inspire you to live a joyful life, through enjoying the little things and moments in life.

Washi Tape Glitter Feathers

Hi! So, as you may have guessed, the theme for this month is... confetti and glitter! I love those two, they can make anything 10 times happier! Today we are going to make the cutest Glitter Feathers ever! It is so simple, you can make them in about 1 minute! And best of all, just as the name implies, it has glitter on it! I chose to put my glitter right down the center, but you could cover the whole feather in it! Lets get going!

Materials:

  • Washi Tape
  • Glue
  • Glitter
  • Scissors
  • Toothpicks

What To Do:

1.Place tape on either side of the toothpick. Smooth.

2. Round the top edges of the Washi Tape. Cut slants on the bottom edges.
3.  Cut notches following the slant all the way up the tape. Repeat on other side.

4. Put glue in a line down the middle, then, put glitter over top. Let dry.

And that's it! I told you it was easy! Hope you had as much fun as I did in making these! And as always...

Keep creating!

Confetti Candle Holder

Hello! I can't wait to make this one with you! It's super cute and customizable too! I stumbled on this Confetti Candle Holder on Pintrest (best site ever!) when looking for something to do. Guess I found it! You can make this any size you want, but I chose to make it small, like a candle holder.

Materials

  • Glue (I used Mod Podge)
  • Confetti or Glitter
  • Balloons
  • Candle (optional)

Supplies

  • Paint or Foam Brush
  • Bowl (to hold confetti)

  1. Use the paintbrush to cover the top of the balloon with     glue, slightly bigger then what you want the size you       want your bowl/candle holder to be.
  2. Dip the balloon into the the confetti. Make sure the           entire glued portion of the balloon is covered. Let dry,     then repeat 3-5 times (depending on how thick you         want the bowl/candle holder)
  3. Coat the balloon glue and let dry.
  4. Pop the balloon and let the bowl/candle holder dry.

And there you have it! Your very own Confetti Candle holder, now just show it off and make more!

Keep crafting!
